I have not blogged in a Long time

I haven't blogged in a while. I guess that's because nothing has bugged me enough to strike up the inspiration to blog.

I was actually inspired today though, you know what really inspires me? Abandoned warehouses or buildings. There is just something about them that is just enchanting and mysterious. I totally love the dingy, creepy look of them. Am I the only one who likes abandoned buildings? Does anyone else see the art in them?

What ever happened to art for arts sake?

Two similar pictures, two similar themes, but one big difference.

The first picture is what I like to call art for arts sake. I look at it and right away I begin to think who is this girl? Why is she alone? What is she thinking? Why is there a slight smirk somewhere beneath her sulk? This one girl standing alone on a cold winter day is able to evoke so much emotion from an audience and leaves room for you to create your own story as to what she is doing or thinking.

This picture on the other hand is what I see too often today, a teen with a camera trying to look sultry in order to feign mystery and emotion.

**Now I'm not saying this picture is bad, shes gorgeous for starters and I would kill for her outfit (check out her Lookbook profile if you have time) her picture is just to demonstrate her fashion.**

I'm simply using it as an example though, a lot of people think well maybe if I don't look at the camera it will become art, or maybe if I stand beside an abandoned building, or even worst no longer functioning train tracks while staring down at my old converse with either A) A child-like innocence as though I have been sheltered from the realities of the world OR B) Like a torn outcast marginalized by society who has seen too much of the worlds harsh realities for their age. While you and I both know they are more often than not, a well off kid from the suberbs who just got a DSLR camera for their birthday and raided Urban Outfitters for anything that looks vintage.  It screams "HEY! LOOK AT ME, I'M AN ARTIST!" and makes me hate photography because of the vanity which they attach.

Thursdays Thoughts: What has perturbed me lately

Has anyone noticed how hard it is to have a real conversation with people these days? I mean I've just 18 but still I like to talk about things that actually stimulate the mind (I know it sounds cheesy). When I'm with other girls my age, honestly, all we ever talk about is: Boys, pop music (they refuse other genres), movies (but never about plot or good acting. Only how good looking actors are), gossip, wanting new clothes/electronics, etc.  When we do talk about books (not that it happens often) all they know about is mainstream books like Twilight and Gossip girl anything else goes right over their heads. And to add insult to injury, when we hang out together a lot of the time everyone is on their cell phone or laptop texting, Black Berry Messaging, or Facebooking other people rather than talking to each other while we're in the same room! I find that so ridiculous, it makes me think why did you invite me in the first place? Couldn't I have just stayed home and texted you?

For once I would like to hang out with a bunch of girls my age and discuss classic books like To kill a mockingbird, Shakespearean plays, the works of Oscar Wilde, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, etc. Watch movies that actually have a point or some complexity to the plot and actors who commit to their roles rather than cliche movies filled with good looking celebrities. I would love to be around open minded people who are able to listen to anything from Lady Antebellum, Kid Cudi, Guns N roses, right down to the genius which is Florence + The machine. I'd like to talk about current events, the news, or even our own lives and go to places like museums, dancing, or roller skating when we hang our rather than "chilling" at someones house or the mall.

Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying we should sit around like we're Dorthy, Rose, and Blanche. I'm just saying we're almost out of high school there is more to life than boys, celebrities, and materialistic things.

Well that's my rant for today folks!

Never blogged before, so bear with me....

For starters I 'm not sure how many people will actually read this blog. But thanks in advance to those who actually do take the time out of their busy lives to read it.

I'm nothing more that a young lady with a love for the arts, a lot on her mind, and a lot of time on her hands.
